Get your DD-214 and military records
Getting your records is free. Never pay a website to order them for you.
Step by step
- Have your full name used in service, branch, service number or SSN, and dates of service ready.
- Order online through the National Archives (eVetRecs), or mail Standard Form 180.
- Ask for your full personnel file (OMPF) if you plan a discharge upgrade — not just the DD-214.
- Request your service treatment records too. They matter for upgrades and disability claims.
- For an emergency (burial, surgery, homelessness), say so — the Archives speeds up urgent requests.
